No Longer Afraid of the Dark

Lent Day 2, Thursday, March 6

For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by you I can run against a troop,
and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God—his way is perfect;
the word of the Lord proves true;
 he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. 2 Samuel 22:29-31

How much wattage did a lamp put out from King David’s time? Enough to light his darkness.

Verse 29 says “my” darkness. David acknowledges his own darkness. He doesn’t deny it, dismiss it, or diminish it. He looks to God as his light, his lamp, his shield, his refuge. The Message in verse 31 says that everyone who runs toward him makes it.

Ponder: What, in this season, is “your” darkness; How can even a flickering oil-lamp light give you hope that, with God, you will make it?

Praise: My God lightens my darkness.
