InSpero is excited to offer the Birmingham community “Thy Love Inspires,” a special night of new and old hymns from well-known local songwriters and musicians.  It will be held Sunday, November 10, at Leeds Presbyterian Church, 8317 First Avenue, beginning at 6 p.m.

Where did the idea of a hymn night come from?

Corey Nolen was burned out on Christian music.  He had been writing songs, performing, and leading worship at different churches.  “I sensed that there should be more.  I drifted away,” Nolen remembers.  Then, he and a few of his fellow musician friends (Adam Wright, Stokes and Connie Skellie) rediscovered old hymns.

For these musicians, hymns acted like an accelerant on their hearts. The lyrics to these ancient hymns were like ‘theology on fire.’[1]

“These hymns woke me up,” says Nolen.

Nolen, Wright and the Skellies began dreaming that, like these hymn writers of the past, they could refocus people’s attention from themselves to God and his eternal truths.

“I think there are other wanderers out there like me who really long for more. Discovering these hymns helped me tap into something bigger than myself.” Nolen says, “Through our music, we want to give people hope in the hard realities they may be facing. We want this evening to help people remember what is really true.”

These “refueled” musicians will debut their new hymns and old hymns with new musical rearrangements at “Thy Love Inspires.” Nolen, Wright and the Skellies will be joined by musicians Chandler Parker, Keith Davis, and Landon Rogan.  This event is free and open to everyone who wants “more.” There will be a love offering for these musicians and InSpero Creative Community. CDs will also be available for sale.

Summary

“O may Thy love inspire my tongue! Salvation shall be all my song.” – Isaac Watts, Oh Thou That Hears’t When Sinners Cry.

Thy Love Inspires is a live collaboration among a group of Birmingham area songwriters and musicians who have been focused on creating new hymns for the church through both original lyrics as well as adaptations of historical texts.

Description

As a person is brought into a deeper understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the grace that moves them through cannot help but inspire expressions of comprehension, introspection, and gratitude.  This grace compels the believer to long for eternity and push light into a darkened world by desiring greater things, eternal things while still on the earth.  Creating is a beautiful manifestation of this work of grace.

Thy Love Inspires is a live collaboration among a group of Birmingham area songwriters and musicians who have been focused on creating new hymns for the church through both original lyrics as well as adaptations of historical texts.

Primary objectives of these hymns are that they are rooted in the Gospel, reveal a deeper understanding of Christian life and are useful in facilitating corporate worship.

The night of hymns will be a live performance of these original hymns as well as an incorporation of some older, more familiar hymns.  There will be a strong emphasis on lyrical content as well as musicianship.  Words will be provided so the listener can engage as the songs are played by a full acoustic styled band.

Thy Love Inspires will feature songs written, arranged and performed by Adam Wright, Stokes Skellie, Connie Skellie, & Corey Nolen.

*DOORS OPEN AT 5:30PM
