Jenny Pruitt, a Birmingham musician and songwriter, who has written for Word Music Publishing, joins with Gina Hurry, award-winning visual artist, to give Leeds and Birmingham a unique Advent offering.
“Creation Waits” features traditional Advent hymns with new arrangements and original music from Pruitt fueled by her meditations on Old and New Testament truths of the coming Christ. “These songs come from a deep longing to slow down and refocus on the reality of Christmas. One of my songs is a lullaby ‘Little Boy, My Joy’ that Mary sings to the Christ child.”
Gina Hurry will be painting live in response to the music. “The Advent season to me is like a passage way between two worlds, inviting us to slow down and pay attention,” says Hurry.
“Creation Waits” will be held at Leeds Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 1 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30. A reception follows in the church fellowship hall. This event is sponsored by InSpero, a creative community committed to bringing beauty and hope to the Birmingham area.
Leeds Presbyterian Church is located at 8317 First Avenue with parking available at the church and on the street. There is no admission charge but there is a suggested donation of $8 per person or $30 per family.
